FAQs – Top Tier Answers

We believe every customer deserves to understand what they’re paying for. Our FAQ section breaks down the most common questions about paving, grading, sealcoating, and maintenance — so you know exactly what to expect from start to finish.

Yes, always. Robert or a crew lead will come out, take a look at the job, and give you a fair, honest quote — no pressure, no surprise fees.

Easy — just give us a call or fill out the short form on our Contact page. We’ll get back to you fast and set up a time that works for you.

Yes — we proudly offer 10% off for seniors, military, and first responders. We appreciate folks who’ve served and worked hard their whole lives.

Yes — every job we do comes with a 1-year labor warranty.

That means if any issues come up with the workmanship — like settling, cracking, or loose edges caused by the install — we’ll come back and make it right, no charge.

We stand behind our work because we take pride in doing it right the first time.

We understand — and we’ll work with you.

At Top Tier Paving, we know not everyone’s got an unlimited budget. A lot of our customers are seniors, retirees, or families just trying to make ends meet. That’s why we keep our pricing honest and fair — no hidden costs, no pushy sales talk.

If you’re on a fixed income, we’ll do everything we can to help you get the work you need within your means.

That might mean:

  • Offering free estimates so you can plan ahead
  • Suggesting recycled asphalt millings as a budget-friendly option
  • Breaking the project up into phases if needed
  • And, of course, our 10% senior and military discount always applies

We recommend waiting at least 48 to 72 hours before driving on fresh asphalt.

That gives it time to cool, harden, and set up right so you don’t leave tire marks or ruts.

If the weather’s hot (mid-summer sun), it can take a bit longer — up to 4 days — especially for heavy vehicles or trailers. You can walk on it the next day, just avoid turning tires in one spot or parking in the same place too soon.

Most residential driveways can be done in one day, depending on size and weather. Bigger commercial jobs may take a few days. We’ll always give you a timeline up front so you know what to expect.

Yes — every single job gets graded first.

Proper grading is where a good paving job starts. Before we ever lay asphalt or recycled millings, we make sure your base is level, compacted, and sloped right for drainage.

We use equipment like skid steers and box blades to smooth everything out, knock down the high spots, fill in the low ones, and make sure water runs away from buildings — not toward them.

If your asphalt just has a few cracks, small holes, or rough spots, a patch repair or crack fill can usually take care of it. But if you’re seeing deep cracks, soft spots, or crumbling areas, it’s often smarter to replace it before it costs you more down the road.

We’ll always give you an honest opinion — not just try to sell you new asphalt. Sometimes patching is plenty. Sometimes it’s better to start fresh.

It depends on what you want out of your driveway.

Tar and chip is a good option for folks who want a low-cost, rustic look that still holds up well. It’s made by spraying hot liquid asphalt, then spreading small stone chips over top and rolling it down tight. It gives a rougher texture than asphalt — kind of like gravel that’s glued together — and it doesn’t need sealcoating.

If you want a smoother, longer-lasting surface, asphalt is the better choice.

If you just want something tough, affordable, and less maintenance than gravel, tar and chip can be a solid fit.

A properly installed millings driveway can last 15–20 years or more.

When installed right — with a solid base, good grading, and heavy compaction — recycled asphalt millings can hold up just about as long as traditional hot asphalt. The key is doing the prep right and keeping up with light maintenance.

We’ve seen well-built milling driveways stay strong for decades — especially when they’re rolled tight and occasionally touched up.

On average, a good sealcoat lasts about 2–3 years.

Sealcoating protects your asphalt from sun, water, oil, and salt — basically everything that tries to break it down. How long it lasts depends on traffic, weather, and how well the surface was cleaned and prepped before sealing.

At Top Tier Paving, we apply a thick, even coat with proper coverage and cure time so it holds up through  hot summers and cold winters.

Proper drainage is one of the most important parts of any paving job.

Before we lay a single ton of asphalt, we grade and slope the surface to make sure water runs off the right way — not toward your house, garage, or foundation.

A little surface moisture after rain is normal, but if you ever notice deep puddles or low spots, give us a call. You’re covered under our 1-year labor warranty, and we’ll come out to inspect and make it right if needed.

We do both. If you already have a layout, we’ll follow it.

If you’re repaving or changing traffic flow, we can design a new layout that meets code and fits more spaces safely.

Yes, you’ll still see where the cracks were — but they’ll be sealed and protected.

Crack-filling isn’t meant to make your asphalt look brand-new; it’s meant to keep water out and stop the damage from spreading.

Once we clean and fill the cracks with hot rubberized material, they’ll look like thin, dark lines against your pavement. You’ll notice them, but they’ll be smooth to drive and walk over — and they’ll keep your driveway solid for years.
